Unwordl - Daily Reverse Wordle Puzzle

How to Play Unwordl

Unwordl flips the classic Wordle formula on its head. Instead of guessing a hidden word, you already know the target — it is displayed right on the board. Your challenge is to fill each row with a valid 5-letter word that would produce the exact color pattern shown when scored against that target.

1. Read the colors

Each row displays a pre-assigned pattern of green, yellow, and gray tiles. Green means the letter at that position must match the target. Yellow means the letter must be in the target but at a different position. Gray means the letter must not appear in the target at all. Study the pattern before you type.

2. Fill in a valid word

Type a 5-letter word that satisfies every color constraint in the row. The word must be a real English word from the dictionary, and when scored against the target, it must produce exactly the pattern shown. If your word does not match the pattern, the row will shake and you can try again.

3. Complete all five rows

Work through each row from top to bottom. Once you successfully fill all five rows with valid words matching their patterns, you win. There is no guess limit per row — take your time and think it through. A new Unwordl puzzle is available every day, or try unlimited mode for endless puzzles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Unwordl?

Unwordl is a reverse word puzzle inspired by Wordle. Instead of guessing a hidden word from color clues, you are given the target word and the color pattern upfront. Your job is to find words that would produce those exact patterns — essentially solving the puzzle backwards. It tests vocabulary, pattern matching, and logical reasoning in a fresh way.

How do the colors work in Unwordl?

The colors follow standard Wordle scoring rules, but you see them before you type:

  • Green: Your letter at this position must be the same as the target word at this position.
  • Yellow: Your letter must exist somewhere in the target word, but not at this specific position.
  • Gray: Your letter must not appear anywhere in the target word (accounting for duplicates).

What are the best tips for Unwordl?

  • Start with green tiles. These are the easiest to satisfy — just use the matching letter from the target word at that position.
  • Handle yellow tiles next. Pick a letter that is in the target word and place it at a position that is NOT the same as where it appears in the target.
  • Fill gray tiles last. Use common consonants and vowels that are not in the target word to complete a valid English word.
  • Use the keyboard highlights. Letters in the target word are shown in green on the keyboard, making it easy to see which letters you can and cannot use for gray tiles.
  • Enable error indicators. Turn on "Show Errors" to see real-time feedback when a letter violates the pattern constraint.

When does the daily puzzle reset?

A brand-new Unwordl puzzle appears every 24 hours at midnight in your local time zone. Every player receives the same puzzle each day, so you can compare results with friends.

Can I play more than one Unwordl per day?

Yes! Unlimited mode generates a fresh puzzle every time you finish a game. Play as many as you like to sharpen your reverse-solving skills.

Is Unwordl harder than Wordle?

It is a different kind of challenge. In Wordle you deduce the answer from clues, while in Unwordl you already know the answer and must work backwards to find words that fit the constraints. Some players find the reverse logic easier because the target is visible; others find it trickier because they must satisfy multiple constraints simultaneously across each row.

About Unwordl

Unwordl takes the beloved Wordle concept and inverts it into a wholly new puzzle experience. By revealing the target word and color patterns upfront, it transforms guessing into construction — you must build words that satisfy precise constraints rather than deduce a hidden answer. The result is a game that rewards vocabulary breadth and careful logical thinking.

Like all great word puzzles, Unwordl exercises critical cognitive skills: working memory, pattern recognition, and flexible thinking. The reverse-solving mechanic adds a creative twist that keeps even experienced puzzle solvers engaged. Whether you play the daily challenge or dive into unlimited mode, every puzzle is a satisfying mental workout.
